Specialty Papers Europe Advisory Board Members

Speciality Papers Europe programme will be shaped with assistance of the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will assess all proposed papers for quality and relevance to this year's agenda objectives.

 

David Bell, VP Corporate Relations, TAPPI

David Bell is Vice President of Corporate Relations at TAPPI. He is responsible for corporate relations, fundraising, the International Research Management Committee, and the Specialty Papers Conference. David came to TAPPI after eight years at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (IPST), the Center for Paper Business and Industry Studies (CPBIS), and the Robert C. Williams American Museum of Papermaking. David received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Printmaking from Georgia State University. He also earned a Technical Certificate in Professional Photography from the Southeastern Center for the Arts.

 

Chuck Klass, President, Klass Associates Inc

Charles P. Klass, President, Klass Associates Inc, is recognized as an expert in development of coated and other value-added papers, processing and use of recycled fiber, and application of innovative technology to the paper industry. His four decades of paper industry experience include technical and operating positions with Hamilton Paper, Oxford Paper, Union Camp, and Westvaco; editorial experience with Paper Trade Journal; sales/marketing management positions with Merck Chemical, Lockport Felt, Asten Group, and Inventing/BTG Coating Systems.

 

Tom Rodencal, President, Rodencal Paper Consulting Inc

Thomas E. Rodencal is Principal Consultant in the Global Paper Services business unit for Nalco Company. Previously he was President Rodencal Paper Consulting Inc. and has 35 years experience working with paper machines and pulp dryers to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality. He has worked in several large paper companies including Hammermill Paper, International Paper, Georgia-Pacific, and Domtar Paper. Over the years, Mr. Rodencal has worked with many grades of paper including specialty, fine, bleached and unbleached board, coated groundwood and coated free sheet, as well as tissue and towel.

 

Steve Rosenberg, Sr. Director, Business Development and Innovation, Neenah Paper Technical Products Business

Currently serving as Sr. Director, Business Development and Innovation for Neenah Paper's Technical Products business, Steve Rosenberg has over 30 years of varied experience in the paper industry. After beginning his career with Appleton Papers, he has served in a variety of product development, sales, marketing and general management roles with Neenah Paper and several different business units of Kimberly-Clark and MeadWestvaco before returning to Neenah Paper in 2006 following spin-off of that business from K-C.

 

Holger Baumgartner, VP Operations, Neenah Gessner

Holger Baumgartner is Mill Manager and Director of Operations at Neenah Gessner GmbH since the acquisition of FiberMark Germany in October 2006. Mr. Baumgartner has been Director of Operations, Richmond, VA and Rochester, MI mills of FiberMark, Inc., Mill Manager of FiberMark Gessner Operations and before Steinbeis Gessner in Germany. Mr. Baumgartner joined Neenah Gessner Germany in 1990 and held increasingly senior positions within operational, engineering and logistic functions. Prior to this, Mr. Baumgartner served in various leadership positions within MD Paper GmbH manufacturing sites. He holds a degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, Pulp and Paper Section. He was President of the Munich Paper Engineer Ass. 1997-2009, he is acting Zellcheming President at Darmstadt, Germany and member of several paper industry trade organizations.

 

Graham Moore, Senior Consultant - Paper, Pira International

Graham Moore has over twenty years experience of the paper industry, encompassing process and product knowledge, wet end chemistry, recycling, de-inking, product performance and strategic futures related research. He has carried out many technical and strategic based consultancies for clients around the world examining issues related to product development and market positioning. He has directed and managed European, UK and client funded research programs. He is a member and Fellow of TAPPI (USA), member and non-executive director of PITA (UK) and a member of PRIMA. He has been an invited lecturer at Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland and Seoul University in South Korea. He has acted as an external examiner for the Universities of Manchester and Reading and as an external expert for the EC; the EPSRC and the Finnish Scientific Academy. His technical background is in chemistry and his research field for his PhD was the chemistry and synthesis of derivatives of chitosan. He has authored many papers; publications and books and is a regular contributor to PPI.

 

Thad Maloney, Professor of Paper Technology, Aalto University

Thad Maloney is Professor of Paper Technology at Aalto University in Espoo Finland Since 2009. He has held a variety of production and research positions throughout the paper industry in both the USA and Finland. His work on pulp fiber structure and dewatering has won several prestigious academic prizes including the van den Akker prize for excellence in paper physics. His current main research interest is in next generation paper manufacturing.
