CelluComp produces a patented MFC (micro-fibrillated cellulose) called Curran® from root vegetables.  Today, Curran® is produced from sugar beet pulp after the sugar has been extracted.  Curran®  is distinctly different than tree-fiber MFC with a unique platelet structure providing both technical and economic advantages.  In paper and packaging application Curran binds very strongly to fibers, generating both MD and CD strength, in wet and dry conditions.  Curran® will also close up porosity, and improve surface smoothness.  Curran’s® platelet structure further enhances drainage, and Curran® will not gel like other MFCs.  Curran® is available in a light powder form (85%+ solids), suitable for global distribution and can be activated locally.  Emerging innovations also include the use Curran® as a full bio-barrier film on the surface of paper.
