We recently spoke with Dave Long, VP Business Development for Coveris Performance Packaging, about his thoughts on the biggest challenges within the Specialty Papers industry and what he is most looking forward to at this year's conference. 

Smithers Pira: Why is the Specialty Papers Conference so important to the industry?

Dave Long: It is important to me to learn and share what is going on in our industry and seek joint solutions to the unmet needs of our customers. 

Smithers Pira: What do you see as the biggest challenges facing the packaging industry, right now?

Dave Long: In the packaging industry, that I am focused in, there is a high level of transition away from paper based papacking to plastic packaging. The unmet needs of the market have overtaken the current offerings. The capabilities in paper based packaging provide a perfect storm of transition. 

Smithers Pira: What are some of the best innovations in packaging, right now?

Dave Long: Decoration advancements with matte combinations and registered matte coatings are in high demand right now.

Smithers Pira: What are you most looking forward to hearing at the conference, this fall, in Chicago?

Dave Long: I am most looking forward to sharing market knowledge and learning what is going on in the industry from others.
